Pearls in News & Entertainment

Pearls America offers its Peal Sightings - a review of recent celebrity and public figure sightings where these women were seen wearing fine pearl jewelry.

Pearls definitely are in fashion.   Whether on the campaign trail, at parties, film premieres, and nights on the town, pearls definitely are "in".

Pearl Sightings

Sara Jessica ParkeActress Sara Jessica Parker at the ShoWest Vanguard Awards in Las Vegas on March 13, 2008 wearing two longer pearl necklaces, likely an opera or rope lengths. This reminds us of the gorgeous Mikimoto 32 inch 8.5mm Akoya necklace her character Carrie Bradshaw wore when going au natural in one scene save for the necklace in the recent "SEX AND THE CITY" movie. The one worn in the movie is said to have a value of almost 12 thousand US dollars. Here she appears to be wearing the one long necklace and then two different pearl necklaces. Yes, pearls can be very alluring.

John McCain with spouse Cindy McCainSara Jessica Parker is not the only one wearing pearls these days. Here, 2008 Republican Presidential hopeful John McCain's spouse, Cindy McCain (above), is wearing what appears to be a four-strand princess length pearl necklace although it could be a long rope necklace wrapped around her neck. This is from Republican National Convention events on September 2, 2008.  Politicians often opt for pearls since they present a more conservative look than other jewelry.

The second picture appears to be in the public domain and has Cindy McCain now wearing three stands at about a princess length.  Again, this could be a triple strand princess necklace, or a longer opera or rope necklace wrapped around the neck.

The triple and quadruple strand pearl necklaces have to be among the most beautiful pearl necklaces you will find. Cindy McCain is not the only one waering them on the campaign circuit.  Earlier in the year, Hillary Clinton was seen wearing a triple strand necklace during one of her debates with Obama.

Depending on the quality of pearls, our estimate for a three- to four-strand necklace is a retail price of about $15,000.  Vanity Fair estimated that the four-strand pearl necklace worn my Mrs. McCain on the first night of the convention costs from $11,000-$25,000 depending on specifics.  That's quite a chunk of change!

Sarah Palin

Alaska Governor and 2008 Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin was wearing an attractive single strand of pearls during her acceptance sppech at the Republication National Convention.  This photo is from the McCain-Palin campaign site.

Actors Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie at the premier of  "A MIGHTY HEAT" during the Cannes Film Festival on May 21, 2007.  Jolie is wearing pearl earrings for this event.   In another photo from September 2, 2007, presently not available, we see Angelina Jolie who was attending THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES by Coward Robert Ford during the 64th Venice Film Festival.  In the photograph, Jolie wore a fantastic triple-strand pearl necklace.   Depending on quality and size, it likely cost between $10,000 and $30,000.
